The Salida Ranger District will begin selling Christmas tree permits on Monday November 23, 2015. Permits are $10.00 each with a limit of two trees per household. Cutting will be permitted through December 24, 2015.
Permits can be purchased with cash, personal check, or money order made payable to the “U.S. Forest Service” at the Salida Ranger District Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are also available via mail by sending a check or money order to: U.S. Forest Service Attn.: Christmas Tree Permit, 5575 Cleora Road, Salida, CO 81201
Permits will be issued for each tree that is harvested and should be securely fastened to the tree before transporting the tree(s) from the area. Handsaws and axes are the only tools allowed to uses to harvest the tree(s). Chainsaws are prohibited. Some recommendations to have when heading out to look for the perfect Christmas tree are warm clothes, water proof shoes, gloves, tree permit, handsaw or axe to cut the tree, and a rope to secure the tree to the vehicle. It is highly advised to go out in a four-wheel drive vehicle and have set of chains as it may be required for to access some areas of the forest.
