Train v Semi Accident South of Pueblo‏

Train vs. Semi Accident South of Pueblo

At 4:30 PM on Friday, March 13th, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the conductor of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train reporting their train had just collided with a tractor trailer on the railroad tracks near Lime Rd and I-25, south of Pueblo.

Pueblo City Fire Department, Pueblo Police Department, and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene where they found the driver trapped inside the cab of the semi. City Firefighters worked to extricate the driver and confirm the load in the trailer was not a hazardous material. Burlington Northern Santa Fe representatives also responded to ensure the tankers attached to the train engine were not compromised. The train sustained minimal damage and will be departing the scene after the investigation is complete.

The driver of the semi has been transported to a local hospital. The man, whose identity is being withheld until family can be notified, was conscious and talking at the scene. I-25 was backed up for approximately 30 minutes after the accident. Lime Road from the railroad tracks to St Charles is closed to through traffic.

Investigators from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and Burlington Northern are still on-scene.
