Before Gaby Moreno hits the road with Calexico for the “Edge Of The Sun” Tour she will be a featured musical guest at the Ralph S. Peer: And the Making of Popular Roots Musicevent at the GRAMMY Museum onWednesday, May 13 alongside The Americans.
Ralph S. Peer was a pioneering A&R man and global music publisher who saw the universal power locked in regional roots music and tapped it, changing the course and flavor of popular music in the United States and around the world. In the course of an adventurous, sometimes revolutionary 50 year career, Ralph S. Peer (1892-1960) opened the door to previously marginalized music, then fostered its global success, playing a key, founding role in creating the durable rhythm & blues, jazz, country and Latin pop genres that we know today.

The event will be hosted by Chris Sampson, Vice Dean, Division of Contemporary Music USC Thornton School of Music, and will feature biographer Barry Mazor, who authored the book Ralph Peer And The Making Of Popular Music (2014); GRAMMY Award winning producer and songwriter KC Porterand Bernard MacMahon, Director of the BBC/PBS production American Epic to be aired this fall.

In this new Spanish trailer for the horror flickInsidious 3 you can distinctly hear Gaby Moreno’s eerie vocals for the song “Arrurru Mi Niño”  The horror flick hits theatres on June 5

As you may have seen on CNN’s Showbiz En Vivo, Gaby Moreno composed a new song “Fronteras” (which will also be featured on her new album) for the newSears campaign “Dos Mundos, Un Sears”
Helmed by Actor-Director-Producer Diego Luna this Sears campaign creatively and emotionally captures the fine line that straddles the two (sometimes more) cultures Latinos embrace here in the U.S.
Lending not only her singing voice, Gaby makes her voiceover debut in this campaign to beautifully depict all the facets that are a daily part of Latino life.
“This is where I belong”

Coffee with Alice Carbone
Our Guatelmalan beauty sat with Italian author and journalist Alice Carbone for a nice chat about the parallel upbringings they each had, their bilingual identities, Gaby’s passion for blues and the 1920s and much, much more.

“Gaby is super-prolific singer-songwriter. Very popular in Guatemala and Central America and more and becoming popular here in North America. She’ll be touring in late spring with the Punch Brothers on the East Coast. We saw that and were like, ‘Aw, man. We would love for her to open for us.’ …

We’re honored that she will be on tour with us on those late-May/early June days. She’s sitting in on a couple songs on the record: “Beneath the City of Dreams,” and also “Miles From the Sea.” I just thought it’d be great to have some of those vocals that she’s done represented live. It’ll be fun.”
