CDOT’s Operation TireSafe Rolls On with Saturday Tire Checks
Copper Mountain and Winter Park Host
Following successful tire checks at Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Peerless Tires 4 Less will be at Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort this Saturday to conduct more Operation TireSafe courtesy tire checks.
Part of the Change Your Peak Drive campaign, Operation TireSafe encourages motorists to check their tire tread and make sure their tires are winter ready. The courtesy tire checks at Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort will occur Saturday, Jan. 24, in the resort parking lots where representatives from Peerless will be on-hand, providing information about tire safety and conducting voluntary checks to let people know if their tires are safe for mountain travel.
“Operation TireSafe is building momentum and we’re excited to have two new locations and another tire partner for the courtesy tire checks on Saturday,” said Amy Ford, Director of Communications for CDOT. “If you’ve thought about getting new tires or don’t know if you need new tires, our tire safety experts are there to answer questions and provide information.”
To encourage drivers to invest in safe tires, CDOT is partnering with Peerless and other tire companies throughout the state to provide deals on a set of new tires. Visitwinter.codot.gov/tires to see all participating tire partners and their discounts, as well as learn how to take the Quarter Test. Peerless is offering 10 percent off any tires, batteries or wheels through March 15, 2015 at any of their 25 Colorado locations.
“Too often we see people with dangerously low tire tread, especially for winter driving,” said Art Prott, General Sales Manager for Peerless. “We’re hoping to help raise awareness about the importance of having good tires during the courtesy tire checks at Winter Park and Copper.”
CDOT plans to bring Operation TireSafe tire checks to other ski resorts and mountain towns throughout the winter, encouraging motorists to prepare their vehicles for winter conditions.
Operation TireSafe is part of CDOT’s Change Your Peak Drive campaign, which works to improve the I-70 Mountain Corridor by encouraging mountain travelers to change not only the time they drive, but also how they drive. Through public education and strategic partnerships, CDOT works to give motorists the tools they need to be winter ready and know the resources they have for I-70 information.
