The Witch (Meryl Streep), whose hideous appearance and threatening manner masks a secret pain, longs for beauty and companionship. Placed under a curse which has made her hideous, she has become bitter and resentful. By enlisting the Baker and his Wife, she makes a deal to lift the evil spell she placed on the Baker’s household if they in turn, can collect the necessary items to help restore her beauty.

king,loving couple who dream of starting a family of their own. But a Witch has placed a curse on the Baker’s home, cruelly insuring they will forever be incapable of having a child. When they learn of the curse they must venture into the Woods and seek out the items which will reverse the spell.
