The Bard Turneth 450 Years Old

‘Tis not every day that a bard turneth 450 years old, now is it? That’s why Classical 88.7 KCME-FM and
several other area nonprofit organizations around the fair kingdom of Colorado Springs are collaborating
to hold the first annual Colorado Springs Bardfest this August. All month long, you can enjoy
multitudinous (Shakespeare is credited with the first written use of “multitudinous”) celebrations and
performances throughout Colorado Springs that celebrate Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon.
Throughout the month of August, tune-in to 88.7 KCME-FM to hear programming inspired by
Shakespeare interspersed with the quality classical music programming you hear on KCME each day.
Listen on August 17th to hear a rebroadcast of Tchaikovsky’s Shakespeare performed by Colorado Springs
Philharmonic earlier this year. Why not enjoy a tankard of grog as you listen to KCME and soak in talk
and tunes of Shakespeare’s time performed by the McAllister-Keller Guitar Duo of the UCCS Music
Department? ”If music be the food of love, play on!”
“Shakespeare’s genius continues to influence our modern world, just as local art and culture have a
lasting effect on our community” proclaims KCME General, Manager George Preston. “That’s why it is
important to bring this collaborative, community-wide festival to Colorado Springs residents.”
Another of the many Shakespeare-themed occasions takes place from July 31st through August 23rd. The
woods of Rock Ledge Ranch will come alive with the sound of music, and strange capers will be afoot as
Theatreworks debuts their production of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” each Tuesday through Saturday.
As Shakespeare said, “too much of a good thing” may not be good for you, but this performance by
Theatreworks is just the right dose of humor to keep you chuckling all evening long.
