CDOT, I-70 Coalition Offer New Incentives to Avoid Peak Time I-70 Gridlock
Summertime Travel Tips and Peak Time Deals Available for Mountain Travelers
Summertime traffic on eastbound I-70 can be nearly as gridlocked as wintertime, so the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the I-70 Coalition are continuing the popular Change Your Peak Time reminders, incentives and deals through Labor Day.
With beautiful weather and the mountains calling us to play, nearly every weekend in June, July and August sees I-70 clogged with cars all trying to head to or leave the mountains at the same time. That’s why CDOT and the I-70 Coalition joined together to encourage motorists to Change Your Peak Time by extending their fun in the mountains instead of sitting in traffic.
Change Your Peak Time shares deals and incentives as well as general tips for ways to skip the mountain return rush in the afternoon on weekends and holidays. The I-70 Coalition, a consortium representing the mountain communities and resorts, gives travel tips and travel forecasts, as well as discounts, deals and incentives for travelers interested in staying in the mountains for an extra hour or two. Special “Peak Time Deals” at GoI70.com/deals are updated regularly, and include a list of restaurants, entertainment options, retailers and lodging options throughout the I-70 corridor offering weekend discounts.
“It’s important to remember that eastbound I-70 traffic can be frustrating in summer too, and we believe one of the best options for avoiding those peak travel times is to take advantage of Peak Time Deals,” said Amy Ford, CDOT Director of Communications.
Most Peak Time Deals are valid year-round and new deals are regularly added. Peak Time Deals include:
•Hotel Chateau Chamonix, Georgetown – Free bottle of wine with Sunday night stay
•Mile Hi Rafting, Dumont – $99 ATV Tour
•La Tour Restaurant, Vail – Food and drink specials starting at $2
•Vacations Inc., Winter Park – 3rd night free
•Flipper McGill’s Bar Grill and Arcade, Idaho Springs – Flipper burger & side for $7
