Hannah Rae Finchamp, Rob Ricard Crowned USA Triathlon Off-Road National Champions

Age-group triathletes Hannah Rae Finchamp and Rob Ricard earned national titles on Sunday at the 2014 USA Triathlon Off-Road National Championships, held in conjunction with the Richmond XTERRA East Championship at Brown’s Island.

Finchamp (Altadena, Calif.) posted a time of 2 hours, 57 minutes, 54 seconds to claim the overall women’s championship title on the 1,000-meter swim, 32-kilometer mountain bike and a 10-kilometer trail run course. Finchamp, an up-and-coming junior triathlete who already has a number of national and world titles to her name, also won the women’s 19-and-under division. Beata Wronska (Boyton Beach, Fla.) was the second amateur women’s finisher, claiming the 35-39 title in 3:12:29 and Alexandra Brook Pace (Tallahassee, Fla.), also in the 35-39 age group, was third overall in 3:13:14.

Ricard (Berwick, Maine) claimed the overall amateur men’s title and the 35-39 age-group title with a time of 2:40:14, just 17 seconds ahead of 30-34 winner and second overall finisher Daniel Molnar (Bismarck, N.D.), who clocked in at 2:40:31. Matthew Riley (Sun Prairie, Wis.) rounded out the overall podium in 2:43:22, picking up the men’s 20-24 age-group win.

Elite triathletes Dan Hugo (RSA) and Flora Duffy (BER) won the elite XTERRA East Championship event held on the same course. Josiah Middaugh (Vail, Colo.) and Emma Garrard (Park City, Utah) were the top American finishers, crossing the line in third and second, respectively.

Top age-groupers at Off-Road Nationals punched their ticket to represent Team USA at the 2015 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Cross Triathlon World Championships, the date and location of which will be announced later this year by ITU. The top 18 finishers (rolling down to 25th place) in each age group qualified for Team USA slots.

Team USA is comprised of the nation’s top multisport athletes who represent the U.S. at each ITU World Championships event. Visit usatriathlon.org for more on Team USA.
