The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will open the Mt. Evans road on Friday, May 23 despite heavy snow in the last several weeks. Adverse weather has hindered efforts made by CDOT crews to clear the road and despite long hours and several weeks of work. The road will open only as far as Summit Lake on Friday. The road will open at approximately 9 a.m., giving crews time to sweep the road and ensure it is safe for the traveling public.
Crews hope to have the rest of the 14 mile stretch of road open in the next week. Additional snowfall hit the road last night and crews have been fighting winter weather in an effort to reach the top.
