The Highlands Ranch Concert Band presents a musical menagerie for their first free concert of 2014, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 26 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 9203 South University Boulevard, Highlands Ranch.
This program includes: Hands Across the Sea, a military march composed in 1899 by John Philip Sousa. Sousa told interviewers that the following phrase inspired him to compose the march: “A sudden thought strikes me; let us swear eternal friendship“. The march was dedicated to all of America’s allied countries abroad and the Highty-Tighties, the Regimental Band of the Virginia Tech Cadet Corps. Hoe Down from “Rodeo” by Aaron Copland and aBroadway Spectacular! featuring Hello, Dolly!, What I Did for Love, Mame, Tomorrow and Sunrise, Sunset.
Highlands Ranch Concert Band is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of volunteer professional, amateur and high school musicians that provides free performances throughout the year, promoting an educational experience for musicians and the community through music, arts, entertainment, and cultural opportunities.
