The Wall Street Journal Names Music Video for “Veida” “Best ‘On The Record’ Songs of 2013”
“The song [Veida] is a taut rocker that pairs bold guitars with Omar’s rich, sultry voice, which reflects the influence of the Miles Davis and John Coltrane records she listened to growing up.”
– The Wall Street Journal
“The Tontons wowed us… from frontwoman Asli Omar’s sultry vocals to the energetic instrumentals of the crew backing”
– PASTE Magazine
The Tontons’ new 11-track album was produced and mixed at Austin’s ChurchHouse Studios by Dave Boyle (Black Joe Lewis, Okkervill River, Robert Plant). The first single “Veida” turned heads in late 2013, premiering with PASTE and just recently named on The Wall Street Journal’s “Best ‘On The Record’ Songs of the Year’ List,” after the same publication called the track “a taut rocker that pairs bold guitars with [Asli] Omar’s rich, sultry voice.”
Performing over 300 shows over the past 3 years, this relentlessly gigging band is releasing an album that represents their shared journey – from playing dive bars to now playing major festivals like Fun Fun Fun Fest, The Hangout Fest, Canada’s Pop Montreal, CMJ Music Marathon, SXSW, Paste’s Untapped Festival, Free Press Summerfest and more. Lead singer, Asli Omar, explains “‘Make Out King’ is more than just an album to us. It’s 3 years of growth and change. It’s touring across America. The Tontons just celebrated their album announcement on New Year’s Eve performing Live in Dallas at the BIG D NYE 2014, presented by GMC, the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the Central Time Zone. The Tontons performed an hour-long set for 35,000 attendees at Victory Park, broadcast live by ABC affiliate WFAA-TV to more than 500,000 viewers in North Texas alone, and in over 20 syndicated ABC affiliates throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and New Mexico.
Beyond major music festivals The Tontons have shared the stage with some of indie music’s finest including Dawes, Kurt Vile & The Violators, State Radio,The Walkmen, and even P. Diddy. The band is an official Red Bull Sound Select Artist and most recently have been fea
