WAPA America, the U.S. cable network affiliated with the leading broadcaster in Puerto Rico, WAPA Television, will air two classic Puerto Rican Christmas films this holiday season. Viewers can enjoy the holiday romance “Nacimiento” (The Birth) on December 24, followed by the classic comedy “Santa Clos Es Boricua” (Santa Clause is Puerto Rican) on December 25. Both films air at 3pm ET.
Filmed in New York and Puerto Rico, “Nacimiento” recounts the birth of baby Jesus, but with a twist. Jesus’ mother and father, “Maria” and “Jose”, travel to Puerto Rico from New York so Maria can give birth to their firstborn child in their homeland. However, plans are derailed when Maria and Jose’s parents fail to pick them up at the airport, setting off an adventure as Maria and Jose desperately try to reunite with their families. Written and directed by Vicente Castro, the film features the acting debut of the 2004 Miss Puerto Rico Universe Alba Reyes, along with local stars Oscar Guerreo, Jazmin Caratini, Jorge Luis Ramos, Marian Pabón, and Luz Odilea Font.
Renowned Puerto Rican actor and comedian YoYo Boing stars in “Santa Clos Es Boricua”—the island’s version of Charles’ Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.” Boing portrays a scrooge who, after being shown an overview of his life by a Christmas ghost, comes to understand the importance of forgiveness, love and reconciliation. This twist on the holiday classic reunites some of the island’s top comedians, including Luis Antonio Rivera, Adrian, Garcia, Gloria Maria Negron, Georgina Borri, Gilda Haddock, and Jorge Luis Ramos, in this hilarious tale.
