Last week we introduced you to a patient we’re calling Maria. When her parents brought her to Clínica Tepeyac, she was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes and severe cataracts in both eyes left her nearly blind.
During the next year, Clínica’s volunteers and staff adjusted Maria’s medication in response to lab results and educated the family on monitoring her blood sugar and making healthier lifestyle choices.
Maria was able to get her diabetes under control. However, she needed cataracts surgery that, even with the discount Clínica negotiates with specialists, would cost $2,000 per eye. Maria’s family couldn’t afford the surgery.
Look for Monday’s email to learn how things turned out.
