New Sex Offender Registry

Pueblo County Sheriff Launches New Sex Offender Registry

Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to review our latest advancement in technology.  The Sex Offender Registration link, SOTAR, is now on our website and is receiving great reviews from both visitors to the website and PCSO employees.  The new system allows the public to view registered sex offenders in Pueblo and other communities throughout the state.  It also allows the deputies on patrol to track home visits, registration violations, and vehicle or physical descriptions of offenders from the office or from their patrol car.

SOTAR gives citizens the option to enter their address and create a map of sex offenders in a particular area.  With Halloween around the corner, families with young children are encouraged to visit the site. Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor believes this information could lead to sex crime prevention and lends a peace of mind to parents and guardians, “It is empowering to have the knowledge needed to help protect your family, especially your children. Registration of felony sex offenders is a requirement across the country because these offenders most often violate in secret or isolation. Worst of all, their victims are often the most vulnerable among us. This information gives parents information to protect their children through avoidance and boundaries but it should not be used to target individuals to harass, intimidate, or commit violence against them.”

One of the most successful applications of the new system is the ability of member agencies all across the state to share offender files.  This provides easier tracking and more immediate notification when an offender arrives in a community.  In addition, a color coded system alerts the investigations office when offenders are out of compliance, are issued a warrant, or are due for a home visit.

To view the SOTAR System, please visit the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office website www.pueblosheriff.com .  Anyone without internet access can request paper copies of the sex offender registry in person at the PCSO Main Office, located at 909 Court St.
