School District 11 Honored for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness

Colorado Springs School District 11 is proud to announce that Monroe Elementary School, McAuliffe Elementary School, and the District 11 Human Resources Department are recipients of the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility for their exemplary workplace practices. Given by Families and Work Institute and the Society for Human Resource Management, the Sloan award recognizes employers that have distinguished themselves in Colorado and across the country. Winners are identified through a rigorous selection process, which involves an evaluation of employers’ flexibility, programs, and practices (from telecommuting to job sharing to phased retirement programs) and a confidential employee survey.

The Colorado SHRM State Council & the Aurora Chamber of Commerce is the official host of the awards in Colorado.  “These employers are leaders in leveraging flexibility strategies to attract and keep the best talent. They experience first-hand the benefits that an effective and flexible workplace has on their employees, organizational culture, and bottom line,” says Kelly Sakai-O’Neill, senior manager of applied research at Families and Work Institute.

“We are honored to be a part of this prestigious group of employers in Colorado.  Most of all, we appreciate our employees who contribute their skills and passion for educating our students to meet the demands of the 21st century by delivering personalized learning for every student, every day, in every classroom.  In addition, we work collaboratively with our employees daily to provide options for our programs and practices, despite our challenging budgetary constraints.  We use flexibility programs and practices as effective workplace strategies and, in doing so, we help our employees meet their work and life needs and help the organization continue to achieve strong results in student growth and achievement.  We also congratulate Twain, Hunt & Audubon Elementary Schools, and Doherty High School for receiving honorable mentions for their exemplary workplace practices,” said Dr. Nicholas Gledich, Superintendent of Colorado Springs School District 11.

Colorado SHRM State Council & the Aurora Chamber of Commerce will recognize all Colorado recipients of the Sloan Awards for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility at the Colorado SHRM State Council Best Companies Celebration on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at noon at the Westin Westminster located at 10600 Westminster Blvd, Westminster, CO 80020.

Award winners will be featured in the next edition of the Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work. Information about innovative workplace practices also will be showcased at a national work-life conference and be included in business education programming by FWI and SHRM.
