Monument Installation Underway on 4th Street Bridge‏

Monument Installation Underway on 4th Street Bridge

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in coordination with the City of Pueblo, is installing brick monuments at each corner of the 4th Street Bridge on State Highway 96, just west of downtown.

The monuments are being constructed by local artist Ken Williams and DS Masonry of Pueblo under a $300,000 contract that includes design, fabrication and installation.  DS Masonry is installing the brick framework and the artwork will be added to each monument by Williams.  His designs were selected via a process administered by the city and CDOT.

The monuments on the north side of the bridge currently are under construction.  When both are completed, work then moves to the south side of the bridge.  The project should be completed by the end of August.

No lane closures are expected at this time but may be necessary as work progresses.

The new 4th Street Bridge – which crosses the Arkansas River, a floodway, the Pueblo railroad yard and a city street – was completed in December 2010.  It replaced a 52-year-old bridge that was functionally obsolete and structurally deficient.
