The Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) contractor for the East Rail Line, Denver Transit Partners (DTP), is installing the first track toward Denver International Airport (DIA) along Peña Boulevard. Media are invited to take photos and video of the construction area on Wednesday, July 17*, 2013. A viewing area will be set up at 64th Avenue west of Tower Road, near Peña Boulevard. All visitors to the construction site must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots. Hard hats, safety goggles, construction vests and gloves will be provided onsite. Interested media should contact Laura Rinker via the information above.
An included attachment contains additional information on the rail and the manner in which it is being installed.
The rail and concrete ties were produced in Colorado. The rail was made from recycled steel at the EVRAZ mill in Pueblo. The ties were manufactured by Rocla Concrete Tie Inc. in Denver. This highlights the commitment by RTD and DTP to local jobs and to sustainability, with the use of recycled materials whenever possible.
This work is part of the construction of the RTD FasTracks East Rail Line between downtown Denver and DIA.
