Hilos Culturales will host an evening Fandango in Alamosa on Thursday, July 25 at the Adams State University Student Union Building. Music will be provided by the Southwest Musicians, who play dance music to Valse de los Paños, La Cuna and El Chotis, all popular social dances that have been enjoyed in the communities of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado since the mid 1800s.
Hilos Culturales will present their annual folk artist awards to Juan Francisco Coca of Aguilar and Billy and John Archuleta of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. This award, Premio Hilos Culturales, recognizes life-time achievement honors to individuals who have excelled in their home communities as interpreters of música del pasado and piezas sociales, folk music and dances of the Spanish Colonial era.
A commemorative Fandango Alamosa poster for this event has been created by Matt Capel l at Ventero Open Press in San Luis. He will be present to autograph this hand-pressed poster at the Fandango.
Fandango Alamosa will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Student Union Building, on the Adams State campus. Tickets are $1 and are available at Papers of Distinction and SLV Federal Bank in Alamosa.
