Just after 1:30 this morning, deputies responded to a home invasion in the 1200 Block of Monterey in eastern Pueblo County. A woman called 911 reporting she heard noises coming from the living area of her home. When she went to investigate, she discovered three suspects standing in her kitchen with her television. One of the men held a gun to her head and ordered her to the ground. A second man, dressed in a red shirt and red pants, stayed in another room but she could hear him talking to a third person. The crew was ordering the woman to give them other items of value in the house when she heard a gun go off. She looked up to discover there was blood on a wall of the kitchen and the three suspects were running from the home.
While deputies were still investigating, 27 year-old Carlos Vigil was admitted into a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. The home invasion victim was able to identify Vigil as one of the suspects. Deputies are standing guard over him until he is medically cleared to return to Pueblo County Detention Facility. In addition to the charges of Aggravated Robbery, First Degree Burglary, and Felony Menacing he faces, Vigil has an active Domestic Violence warrant.
“This is one of the most cowardly types of crimes”, says Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor, “breaking into a family home holding a mother at gunpoint while her children sleep only a room away. We are going to find these other two suspects. We have solid leads we are investigating right now.” Sheriff Taylor also encourages anyone with information on this crime to call Pueblo Crimestoppers where a cash reward may be offered for information leading to additional arrests in this case. Citizens can reach Pueblo Crimestoppers by calling 542-STOP, they can also provide the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center case information by calling 583-6250.
