The Denver Union Station Project Authority’s celebrates another milestone in the completion of the Denver Union Station transit improvement project with the opening of Wewatta Street between 16th and 19th streets on Friday, May 31, at 11 a.m.
This stretch of Wewatta Street has been closed since August 2011 during construction of the underground Regional Bus Facility and other transit elements.
Starting Friday on Wewatta Street:
- There will be one lane in each direction between 16th and 17th streets
- There will be two lanes in each direction between 17th and 19th streets
- Pedestrian access will be on the west side between 17th and 19th streets and then detoured on 17th Sreet to Chestnut Place to access 16th Street
- There will be no pedestrian access between 16th and 17th streets
Also opening on Friday is 17th Street between Wewatta Street and Chestnut Place and the 17th Street Promenade/Garden. The street and promenade are on top of the underground Regional Bus Facility and the gardens include the skylights that provide natural light into the facility.
The project is scheduled to be complete in the spring 2014.
