Otero Junior College will host its second Discovery Day event of the year on Wednesday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the OJC campus. The event will begin at 9 a.m. in the college’s new Learning Commons center, located in Wheeler Hall.
According to Almabeth Kaess, associate vice president of Enrollment Management, OJC Discovery Days is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to visit the campus and explore the many options available to them at OJC as they prepare to choose a college for next fall.
“We have a beautiful campus and exceptional programs of study that we want to make sure anyone who is thinking about enrolling in college has an opportunity to explore,” said Kaess. “Prospective students will have a chance to tour the campus in small groups, led by our Student Ambassadors. These are current students that can not only give informative information about the college, but can also speak about what it is like to be a student at OJC,” she said.
Kaess explained that while on the tour, the groups will attend some short informational sessions that will help answer many of their questions. The sessions will include learning more about the programs of study available at OJC, exploring the various options available to students to help pay for college, including scholarships and financial aid, and finding out about what kind of support OJC offers to students to help them be successful in the classroom.
Guests who register for the event will get a free lunch and attend a Campus Fair, where they can meet with instructors, student club representatives, and student housing representatives. Those that are interested in student housing will also be able to tour the OJC student dormitories.
At the end of the day if prospective students are ready to apply to OJC, staff will be available to assist them with the application process.
