OJC Premier Agriculture Scholarship deadline extended to April 15

 Otero Junior College, in cooperation with the OJC Foundation, has developed a premiere agriculture scholarship which is available to incoming OJC freshmen and sophomore students entering into one of OJC’s agricultural sciences courses of study. Funds for these scholarships were raised at the New Year’s Eve Cowboy Gala.

The scholarship will be awarded to at least 5 students at up to $1,500 per student per academic year ($750 per semester). Successful applicants may reapply for a second year of funding if they are still eligible.

Scholarship selection will be based on agricultural involvement, such as previous employment, extra-curricular activities and future aspirations. Applicants meeting all requirements will be asked to take part in a personal interview prior to scholarships being awarded.

While a minimum grade point average is not required for the scholarship, an applicant’s GPA will be considered as a rating factor by the selection committee. Scholarships will be awarded to scholars on a competitive basis.

The application packet must include:

·         Completed application form;

·         Official high school or college transcript;

·         Two letters of recommendation from instructors, counselors or employers;

·         An essay (500 word maximum) describing your involvement in agriculture and your future aspirations related to the field; and

·         A list of other scholarships and financial aid applied for, with information regarding those that have been received. The applicant’s 2013-14 Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be included.

Premiere Agriculture Scholarship applications are being accepted until the extended deadline of 5:00 pm on April 15, 2013. Completed applications should be returned to Justin Osborne, agriculture sciences faculty, Otero Junior College, 1802 Colorado Ave., La Junta, CO, 81050.
