The House Public Health Care and Human Services Committee unanimously passed Senate Bill 137 on April 9, 2013. Sponsored by state Rep. Clarice Navarro, R-Pueblo, SB 137 helps improve Colorado’s Medicaid fraud system and ensure taxpayer dollars go toward helping those most in need. Sen. Ellen Roberts, R-Durango, sponsors the measure in the Senate.
Specifically, the bill directs the Department of Healthcare Policy and Financing to issue a request for information and implement a data analytics program for verifying Medicaid eligibility in Colorado.
“I am proud to work with Senator Roberts on this important bill,” said Navarro. “The legislature is entrusted to make sure that taxpayer money is wisely spent and by using data analytics, we can use cutting edge technology to find overpayments, improper billing and fraud in Colorado.”
Senate Bill 137 now heads to the House Floor, where Navarro noted she looks forward to continuing the discussion on ways lawmakers can improve Colorado’s Medicaid system.
