Comcast’s Partnership with Mi Casa Provides Essential In-Kind and Financial Support

Mi Casa Resource Center prepares to welcome Comcast volunteers for a day of service

Comcast Cares Day is Saturday, April 27, and as in past years, a group of nearly 100 Comcast volunteers will dedicate their Saturday to beautifying Mi Casa’s home on Acoma Street.

They will paint walls, clean up the grounds, and even fill potholes in the parking lot.

Mi Casa has a longstanding partnership with Comcast that includes not only Comcast Cares Day projects, but also support for Mi Casa’s Youth Development programs. Specifically, Comcast supports Mi Casa in efforts focused on technology training and bridging the Digital Divide – the gap between those with access to information technology and those without.

Comcast’s strong community involvement not only supports essential programs that expand educational opportunities, it also keeps their employees engaged.

One of the Comcast employees who will be at Mi Casa on Saturday, Jody Hernandez, has been here before – but it’s been a while. Jody participated in Mi Casa’s career training programs back in the early 1980s after she graduated from North High School.

“I came to Mi Casa to get my career going,” Jody said. “They had training for women to get into nontraditional jobs like construction, and Mi Casa provided the support I needed to get started.”

Mi Casa helped Jody get an interview at Comcast for an installer position, and she was hired. Jody has worked in various roles at Comcast and in July she will celebrate her 24th work anniversary at the company.

When Jody saw Mi Casa on the list of projects, she was excited. “I started my career at Mi Casa and now years later I have the chance to go back and help an organization that had a positive effect on my life.”
