Adams State EARTH Week celebration includes presentation by Box

In honor of Earth Day, local artist Russell Box, Sr., an elder of the Southern Ute Tribe, will speak on the Bear Dance, a ceremony practiced by various Native American tribes of this region. His presentation, “Awakening of Life,” begins at 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Student Life Center of the Student Union Building and kicks-off Adams State University EARTH Week. The event is free and open to the public.

Box was raised on the Southern Ute Reservation in Ignacio, Colorado and was exposed to and has participated in several of the traditional ceremonies of that tradition. Box will speak from his own experiences as well share a DVD. The presentation will allow time for questions from the audience.

Refreshments will be served. The Student Life Center is located on the northeast corner of the SUB. Parking permits are not required for Adams State parking lots after 5 p.m. For further information, contact United Campus Ministry at 719-587-7516.
