One of the most exciting and promising young voices in urban bachata music has signed with Machete Music. Today, Universal Music Latin Entertainment announced the signing of YUNEL CRUZ, to its urban music imprint. The young Dominican-American singer has quickly become one of the most talked about new artists in Latin music over the last few months and now prepares the release of his debut album scheduled for release under Machete/UMLE later this year.

“I thank god for this beautiful opportunity to enter a new phase in the career I always dreamed of. I want to thank the entire Universal family for their faith in my project. I am excited to deliver the best album to my fans and to the entire world,” commented Yunel.

Yunel’s unique mix of bachata music laced with urban flavors is the epicenter of the new wave of bi-cultural music that is captivating young Latinos in the United States and has catapulted him into the top of artists to watch out for this year. Yunel, a graduate from Fisher College in Boston with a  degree in music, dazzled audiences on Broadway stages while fine-tuning his voice, production and song-writing skills throughout the last few years.  Now, the young singer, musician and producer prepares to take over the Latin music scene as the evolution of fusion music and a captivating presence that continues to propel him forward.

Yunel’s union with Universal is preceded by various years of development in the tropical music “underground” of the Northeast US. He was nominated in the category of “Best New Artist” at Univision’s 2012 Premios Lo Nuestro and at the prestigious Premios Casandra in the Dominican Republic. His single “Dominicanita”, which he released independently, remained in the Top 10 of the Billboard tropical charts for more than 20 weeks while his other single “Made For You” charted for 3 consecutive months and reached #4 on the tropical charts. Yunel has collaborated with Latin music heavy-hitters including Fanny Lu and most recently with Don Omar on the track “Llaves De Mi Corazon” one of the featured tracks on the urban superstar’s album “MTO2: New Generation” which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Latin Albums Chart.

Yunel Cruz will release his first official single from his new album this Spring.
