X-Vox: Generations Joined in Song

Harmony Festival

With Annual Ambitions, X-Vox: Generations Joined in Song has Local

Youths Engaging with Major Choral Works

X-Vox, a cross-generational choral collaborative, combines voices from the Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Choral Society and the Summit Ensemble of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, along with singers from Pikes Peak Community College, Rampart High School,  and Liberty High School to perform Morten Lauridsen’s, “Lux Aeterna,” Saturday, April 6, 7:00 p.m. at First Christian Church.

Lux Aeterna was greeted by The Times after its premiere as: ‘a classic of new American choral writing … in this light-filled continuum of sacred texts, old world structures and new world spirit intertwine in a cunningly written score, at once sensuous and spare’. Were a comparison to be sought, it would perhaps with Fauré’s Requiem, but this new work surely stands as unique.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Morten Lauridsen once worked as a Forest Service firefighter and lookout. He was named an ‘American Choral Master’ by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2006, and received the National Medal of Arts in 2007. His works have been recorded on more than 200 CDs, five of which have received Grammy Award nominations. He is currently one of America’s most performed composers, with hundreds of performances each year. Over one million copies of his scores have been sold throughout the world.

X-Vox is a community outreach project by Chamber Singers, in partnership with the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, to build cross-generational opportunities for the discovery and love of choral music. Participating choirs rehearse separately, then join together for two days of rehearsal and workshop before the performance.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students; available through the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale. Call 719-633-3562 or on performance day at the door.
