Walk A Mile In Her Shoes
The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence
We have all heard the saying, “You never truly know someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile In Her Shoes® is an event that asks men and boys to make that saying a reality, to literally walk a mile in women’s high heels to raise awareness about rape, sexual assault, and gender violence.
In Colorado, nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced a sexually violent crime in their lifetime, according to the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey of 2010. With this statistic in mind, it is time for women and men take a stand, in high heels, against sexual violence.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® event will be held on April 27th in Bancroft Park of Old Colorado City from 12:30PM to 3:30PM. Registration will be held March 1st through April 5th, and on the day of the event. To register, go to walkamilecs.eventbrite.com or register at UCCS University Center Information Desk, located at 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway. This event is open to the community and all are invited to attend.
The pre-registration fee is 15 dollars and participants will receive a t-shirt. Participants are asked to provide their own high heels. For information about locating stores with extended sizes of high heels, contact the UCCS Information Desk, located in the University Center, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This event is hosted by the UCCS Respect on Campus program with support from TESSA’s Auxiliary Board. All proceeds will benefit TESSA, the local agency that provides support and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
