The Edson Foundation

Al Edson was, by all accounts, a brilliant engineer. He overcame a challenging childhood to become a highly successful businessman, but after achieving his success, he wanted to give back. Al began to help others, focusing on promising young people who also faced challenges in their upbringing. As time went by, and Al neared the end of his life, he wanted his estate to continue to make a difference for others. He worked with his financial advisor, Jeff Jensen, to create the Edson Foundation.

After several years, the Board of Directors of the private foundation realized they were spending too much time on the technical aspects of administrating the foundation, and too little time actually carrying out the work so dear to Al’s heart. They turned the Edson Foundation into a donor-advised fund with the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, which now handles the legal and administrative side of things. This allows the Edson Foundation’s board members to devote their energy to reviewing letters of intent and selecting grant recipients.

Al has passed on, but the Edson Foundation lives on. The Foundation has helped thousands of local people during the past few years. The foundation makes grants to local non-profits, which disseminate the funds to individuals in need. An important caveat, and a lasting testament to Al’s good work, is that recipients must also be people who are committed to giving back to the community. This stipulation ensures that Al Edson’s passion for making a difference carries on through the years, and that his legacy will live on for generations to come.
