April 2nd and 3rd the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale’s Southern Colorado In Harmony Festival will fill the Pikes Peak Center with song in a way that has rarely, if ever, been done before. By bringing together nearly 400 singers from elementary schools from around Southern Colorado, the Pikes Peak Singers of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale and The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony’s Encore Orchestra the In Harmony Festival promises to be an evening of music to be remembered. The festival is the brain child of Marcia Hendricks, Executive Director of CSCC, and Lori Bammesberger, its Musical and Outreach Director, and aims to provide a unique performance opportunity for local elementary school age vocalists. Many of these young singers’ performance experience is limited to their school cafetorium or perhaps a local retirement center or the mall. Through The Southern Colorado In Harmony Festival these students will experience the thrill of performing on the main stage at the Pikes Peak Center while also learning about the discipline and focus necessary to work in a professional performing arts environment.
With sheet music in hand, provided by The Children’s Chorale, these young singers will arrive the afternoon of April 2nd and spend two intense days polishing their music, honing their choral singing skills, and having a great time while making new friends. Then, on the evening of the third at 7:00 pm, they will come together to fill the Pikes Peak Center with their song. Each school choir will have the opportunity for an individual performance before coming together 400 strong to sing in the Mass Festival Choir. The evening will also feature performances by the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association’s Encore Orchestra as well as the Pikes Peak Singers of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale. You won’t want to miss this celebration of life through song.
