Denver– Today, Senator Kent Lambert (R-Colorado Springs) issued the following statement regarding the murder of his constituent and Colorado Department of Corrections Executive Director Tom Clements last night:
“Director Clements was a totally professional and honest public servant who moved to Colorado from Missouri to serve the people of this state as our top prison official. He was indefatigable in his leadership of the Department of Corrections. We met with Tom on Monday, and discussed his highest priority, the safety of his many corrections officers who work in close proximity with dangerous state inmates.
“I had the opportunity to travel with Tom from Colorado Springs to Bent County in January. He has always been a kind and decent gentleman in all things. His senseless murder is among the saddest moments we have had. As the leader of the largest department in the state, we share his loss with hundreds of Department of Corrections officers who will share in this grievous loss.”
Senate Republican Leader Bill Cadman (R-Colorado Springs) added:
“Today is a sad reminder that the people who serve our state are our greatest treasure. Director Clements’ devotion to making the people of Colorado safer after serving the state of Missouri for over 30 years is a testament to his commitment to public service. On behalf of the Senate Republicans, we extend our sincerest sympathies to Director Clements’ family.”
