Weather and road conditions have again extended some nighttime work in advance of construction to expand I-25 between Monument and Woodmen Road in Colorado Springs. Contractors will take soil samples temporarily reducing traffic lanes and reducing speed limits to 65 mph for short distances along the interstate. All the work will be done between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., weather and equipment permitting, and will reduce traffic to one through lane for about 1 mile.
The temporary closure will take place Thursday, Feb. 28, first in the northbound and then the southbound lanes of I-25 between Baptist Road and North Gate Boulevard.
This work precedes construction that will widen 11-miles of I-25 to three lanes in each direction between Woodmen Road in Colorado Springs and Monument. Construction on the additional lanes is expected to begin in March.
More project information will be released before construction begins. For more information about the N. I-25 Design-Build project, contact Bob Wilson, Colorado Department of Transportation, 303-757-9431.
