The world hotel chain Barcelo Hotels & Resorts are official hosts again for the Miss Latina US Pageant in Riviera Maya, Mexico. From August 18 to September 1, 2013, the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort will be home for a fourth time to delegates from all across the US seeking to become the next Miss Latina US and represent the USA at the international finals to select Miss Latin America of the World 2013.  The pageant was staged here in 2003, 2005 and 2012; however, this is the fifth time it returns to Mexico, having also had Hermosillo, Sonora as host site in 1989.

Single women of Latino or Hispanic heritage between the ages of 19 and 27 are showcased in this national competition that since 1981 has been encouraging academic pursuits, personal development and cultural awareness, while promoting stronger ties between the US and Latin America. Delegates are selected from across the US through a growing list of preliminary competitions in this, the first and only national pageant system for Latinas in the US that is also part of the largest Latina pageant network in the world that started in the United States.

Sasha Zacarias is the reigning Miss Latina US 2012 who will be crowning her successor on the Palenque Theatre stage, the same one that saw her win the coveted crown last June. Sasha is the fifth New York delegate to win the title of Miss Latina US and the third of Dominican heritage. Her other predecessors have been from Arizona, California, Florida, Kansas, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah and Washington, D.C., of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, Peruvian, Bolivian, Costa Rican, Guatemalan and Nicaraguan origin, a testament to the vast number of nationalities that comprises the large Hispanic population living in the United States of America.

During the week-long pageant event, state delegates will be busy with rehearsals, preliminary rounds of competition, press and photo sessions, social activities and recreation at one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts located right on the best beach in the Mexican Caribbean coast. All eligible Latinas are encouraged to participate in their state’s preliminaries for the chance at living this amazing experience. Some that have already done so and will be traveling to Cancun next summer representing their state are Norma Aranda (Arkansas), Crystal Muñoz (California), Vanessa Uribe (Georgia) y Sasha Villalobos (Utah).
