Don’t Forget the Innocent

How many more innocent children have to die? When are we going to shield up for their protection? Children the world over are in need of positive mentors, role models, protectors, educators or quite simply; someone that gives a damn.

The latest school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut is not the time for the self-righteous to pounce on a platform for their own agenda.  It is time to take direct action to prevent this from ever happening again.

President Obama said he would do everything in his power to prevent future mass shootings. As grieving parents and family members try to comprehend the “why” of this senseless massacre the question remains, “What will the President actually do to prevent future mass shootings?” And I add one of my own, “Why wasn’t it accomplished before this tragedy?” Are we forgetting Columbine?

Has the entire world lost its collective mind? There are child soldiers being trained to kill in certain regions of Africa. There are children being strapped with bombs as suicide bombers in certain regions of the Middle East. There are children being sold into the sex trade in Asia.  In the name of all that is holy; what is being done about it?

If children are the future, just what future are they the future of?

This event isn’t just a problem for the United States. This isn’t just a concern for North Americans. This is a call to action for the entire village of humanity.

Prayers may not be enough to those that are directly affected by this horrible act. However we must call on a Higher Power because our lower power is failing.

May God spread His protective arms around the parents, students, teachers, friends and relatives of the young lives lost in these disturbing and confusing days ahead.

Why must we suffer a loss before we are able to obtain a gain? Let’s not sacrifice anymore of our children to find the answer.
