The Election and What It Means for Immigration

The voters have spoken and, while some races remain undecided, candidates who favor common sense reforms of our immigration system prevailed while proponents of “self deportation” were rejected.

Not surprisingly, exit polls indicate that nearlytwo-thirds of voters surveyed said thatundocumented immigrants should be given the opportunity to pursue legal status. Less than 3 in 10 favored deportation. Read the Washington Post Story here.

The Election and DREAMers

In the meantime, the election results also have an important impact forundocumented youth. Because of President Obama’s re-election, the program to grant temporary protection to DREAMers will continue. Learn more about Deferred Action here.
With election uncertainty past, we anticipate that many community members will now come forward to take advantage of the program’s temporary work permits and deferred threat of deportation.
