Buy Nothing Day offered as sustainable alternative
Lots of Springs residents don’t like the commercialization of the holidays and won’t be anywhere near the malls on Nov. 23, the infamous “Black Friday.” They are invited to join the Pikes Peak Justice & Peace Commission for “Green Friday,” a sustainable alternative event, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the PPJPC offices, 332 W. Bijou St., Suite 102 (northeast corner of Bijou and Spruce streets).
From noon-1 p.m., members and friends will enjoy a Buy Nothing Day Thanksgiving Leftovers Potluck. We’ll be next door to Repeat Boutique, where guests can bring their gently used women’s clothing, kid’s clothes, accessories, home decor, books, CDs, DVDs and tools to swap with other participants. For a $10 suggested donation, each swap-shopper is welcome to take home as much “new-to-you” merchandise as they expect to use.
