El Paso County’s “Weight of the Nation” event receives “Silver Leaf”
award from Colorado Healthcare Communicators
El Paso County, Colorado—Colorado Healthcare Communicators honored
Kaiser Permanente Colorado, El Paso County Public Health, and the
Healthy Community Collaborative of El Paso County with a “Silver Leaf”
award for their successful partnership event, “Weight of the
Nation/Weight of El Paso County” held in Colorado Springs this past
April in Centennial Hall.
The Colorado Healthcare Communicators presented the award at the
annual Gold Leaf Awards ceremony and dinner on October 18 in Denver.
HBO and Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with El Paso County Public
Health’s Healthy Community Collaborative, hosted a community health
expo, town hall discussion, and advanced screening of “The Weight of
the Nation.” The series signals the launch of what promises to be one
of the most far-reaching national public health campaigns on obesity
to date. Kaiser Permanente has provided funding to support this series
and the public health campaign to follow. Other partners include the
Institute of Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
National Institutes of Health and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.
The event encouraged community engagement and discussion about how to
improve healthy eating and active living in our communities and to
take action to improve the health of all residents in El Paso County.
Since the 1970s, CHC has honored professionals in public relations,
communications and marketing through our annual Gold Leaf Awards
