Pueblo, CO: On October 16, 2012 at approximately 10:00 PM, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2100 block of Hog Farm Road to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the property owner, 45 year old, Dennis Pratt III. Mr. Pratt stated for the past few days he believed persons were on his property stealing radiators, batteries, and copper amounting to thousands of dollars in losses. He told deputies he and his two adult sons were on his property “hiding” in an attempt to catch the thieves when they observed illumination from flashlights entering his property. Between two junk vehicles Mr. Pratt discovered two young male individuals. Mr. Pratt explained he aimed to the left of one of the flashlights and discharged one round from a .30-.30 firearm in an attempt to frighten the individual carrying that flashlight. The bullet missed the intended individual and struck a second person who was standing to the left and rear of the first.
The victim, a twenty year-old male, died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to his chest.
Based on information obtained during the course of this investigation and in conjunction with 10th Judicial District Office of the District Attorney, it was determined probable cause exists that Mr. Dennis Pratt III is involved in committing the crime of Manslaughter a class 4 felony, described in C.R.S. 18-3-104(1)(a). Mr Pratt is currently being held without bond in Pueblo County Detention Facility.
The investigation is continuing.
