Senator Dick Durbin Joins Los Angeles DREAMers

With 32 days left before the election, Sen. Dick Durbin and Los Angeles DREAMers to highlight President Obama’s Support of the DREAM Act

LOS ANGELES – TOMORROW, Senator Dick Durbin – author of the Senate DREAM Act – will join Labor Leader Maria Elena Durazo at the historic Nuestra Señora Reina de los Angeles to rally local Angelenos and DREAM Act students that would benefit the most from the DREAM Act.

President Obama and Senator Dick Durbin are working together to lift the shadow of deportation from young people who came to the U.S. as children and grew up as Americans and they believe we need a smart, effective immigration system that secures our borders while including common-sense reforms like the DREAM Act.

DREAM students – brought to America as children through no fault of their own and who know no other home – are contributing to our communities across the nation. Our economic competitiveness is strengthened by creating a legal immigration system that rewards hard work and demands responsibility. As President Obama works towards this comprehensive immigration reform, he has instructed the Department of Homeland Security to defer DREAMers’ deportation process temporarily for two years on a case-by-case basis, making our immigration system more fair, efficient and just.
