MAME Opens at Candlelight

Tony Award-Winning Musical MAME Opens at Candlelight Nov. 8

(CDP)  MAME, winner of five Tony Awards, opens Nov. 8, 2012, and plays through Jan. 13, 2013, at the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse. Based on Patrick Dennis’ 1955 novel, “Auntie Mame: An Irreverent Escapade,”  MAME features an award-winning score by Jerry Herman with such favorites as “Bosom Buddies,” “We Need a Little Christmas” and, of course, “Mame.”

Filled with razor-sharp wit and charm, Dennis’ book was adapted to the Broadway stage in 1956. It also inspired two classic films: “Auntie Mame,” with Rosalind Russell, and “Mame,” with Lucille Ball.

MAME is the story of the flamboyantly eccentric Mame Dennis, whose bohemian life is turned on its head when her deceased brother’s 10-year-old son Patrick is entrusted to her care. Rather than bow to convention, Mame introduces the boy to her free-wheeling lifestyle, instilling in him her favorite credo, “Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death.”

Regional favorites Bren. Eyestone Burron and Barb Reeves play the roles of Mame and her bosom buddy, Vera.  Candlelight is also proud to present The Candlelight Carolers as pre-show entertainment from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
