Giving Girls Roots in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will welcome the girls at 8:30 a.m., followed by keynote, Jerri Marr.
At 12:15 p.m., City Council President Pro Tem Jan Martin will present a proclamation to Rosemary Pierce, Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Agency for the International Day of the Girl.
Lunch panelists will include:

All speakers, committee members, volunteers, and students who have signed media releases will be available for interviews and photos.
Purpose: The mission of this program is to spur girls’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). It is STEM fields which promise the best opportunities for individual economic self-sufficiency for women and an area where girls are typically underrepresented.
Participants: The program is open to approximately 350 middle school girls (grades 6-8) from the Pikes Peak Region school districts. The participating districts/schools select the girls to attend.
When: Friday, October 12, 2012, 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Where: Gallogly Events Center, University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS).
What: A series of interactive workshops, designed to engage girls in STEM content, will be taught by local professionals and university educators. These sessions will include a variety of engineering, chemistry, and physics interactive experiments and dynamic hands-on activities. Additional speakers are prominent role models in the industry. During lunch there will be door prize drawings.
