On Sunday, October 14, 2012, at approximately 8:17PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a carjacking that had just occurred at the intersection of Murray Boulevard and Galley Road. The victim reported that his white Nissan pickup truck had been taken from him by an individual who had brandished a handgun.
At approximately 9:01PM, Officers located the vehicle in the area of Hancock and Fillmore Streets. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver refused to stop. The driver then fired several rounds from a handgun from the vehicle. The officers continued to pursue the vehicle to the area of the 600 block of North Circle where a tactical vehicle intervention technique was deployed. The suspect’s vehicle was forcibly stopped and he was taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to the hospital with what was believed to be minor, non-life threatening injuries. It is anticipated that he will be treated and released and he will then be booked into the Criminal Justice Center on yet to be determined charges.
During the incident, one Police Officer sustained minor injuries. He was also transported to the hospital where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. The officer’s and suspect’s names are being withheld pending additional investigation.
Due to the use of the tactical vehicle intervention, the incident will be investigated jointly by both the Colorado Springs Police Department as well as the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
