Fiesta Village at El Pueblo History Museum

The museum’s new attraction is the Fiesta Village featuring Mexican food, bar and entertainment during the run of the Pueblo Chile and Frijole Festival. Co-sponsored by the Cultural Alliance and Chavez Huerta K-12 Preparatory Academy, the Village will have family entertainment during the day on Saturday and Sunday.  Pony Rides along with free admission to the trading post featuring living history presentations will also be offered. The museum’s galleries will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with admission at just a $1 each. For more information, call the museum at 719/583-0453.  Gail Pitts Lecture Series

The first in the Gail Pitts Lecture Series will be the “Women of the Mormon Battalion in Pueblo” Lecture presented by Sherry Johns, local historian and author. Held on September 25, Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., the lecture will focus on the courageous women who followed their soldier husbands on a long, hard military trek that for many ended at Mormon Town near El Pueblo Trading Post, 1846-47. Admission cost for each lecture is $2. Call for reservations.

 

“Song of Pueblo” Concert

The last “Song of Pueblo” concert for this season will be on September 27, Thursday. It’s one more chance to experience Pueblo’s story from the Spanish/Mexican era to the Flood of 1921. Vintage photographs and videography defines the production on two large screens. El Pueblo Ensemble provides the live music and moving narration. Tickets are $15 at the museum. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., concert begins at 7:00 p.m. A new CD of the production’s music performed by El Pueblo Ensemble is also available.

 

Workshops for Adults

On September 29, Saturday, artist Maria Westy Bush will give a Yucca Weaving Workshop for adults and senior citizens from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Along with learning the cultural adaptations of yucca, participants will learn how to weave it and receive her book on yucca. Cost is $30 per person which includes the book and supplies. Register early for workshop.
