Obama Campaign Responds to Ryan’s Visit to Colorado Springs

OBAMA CAMPAIGN RESPONDS TO PAUL RYAN’S UPCOMING VISIT TO COLORADO SPRINGS

OFA National Press Secretary, El Paso County Dem Party Executive Director and Colorado Springs Military Veteran Highlight How Romney-Ryan Are Wrong for Colorado

COLORADO – Today, Obama for America National Press Secretary Ben LaBolt joined El Paso County Democratic Party Executive Director Christy Le Lait and Colorado Springs military veteran Mitch White for a press conference call ahead of Paul Ryan’s visit to Colorado Springs to highlight how the Romney-Ryan agenda would gut investments in a strong middle class and Colorado veterans, while turning back the clock on women’s health.

“When Paul Ryan visits Colorado Springs tomorrow, I think it’s pretty clear what we can expect to hear – no hard truths, no bold ideas. Just a rehash of the same failed policies that crashed our economy and punished the middle class,” said LaBolt. “What we also won’t hear is that Ryan was a rubber stamp in Congress for the policies that turned surpluses into deficits. He likes to talk like a deficit hawk, but Ryan voted to put two wars on the credit card, voted for a prescription drug benefit without paying for it, and rubber-stamped tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans when they weren’t asking for them.”

While President Obama is fighting for an economy built to last, Romney and Ryan are committed to a flawed economic theory that says giving the wealthy more budget-busting tax breaks and placing greater burdens on the middle class, veterans and seniors will somehow strengthen our economy. Additionally, like Mitt Romney, Ryan would take us backward on women’s health and equal rights.

“President Obama had made putting our veterans back to work a top priority. He believes that nobody who has fought for this country should have to fight for a job when they come home,” said White. “The choice in this election is pretty clear for me – it’s a choice between a President who has consistently stood up for veterans and their families, and Mitt Romney, who hasn’t taken the time to make veterans issues a priority.”

“Thanks to Obamacare, being a woman is no longer considered a pre-existing condition,” said Le Lait. “But Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan want to take all of that away. They want to repeal Obamacare and turn Medicare into a voucher program, hitting seniors with skyrocketing costs. Paul Ryan also co-sponsored 38 anti-choice measures during his time in Congress, and Romney said he would ‘get rid’ of Planned Parenthood. This is 2012, not the dark ages – and these are the policy changes a Romney-Ryan presidency would promise.”
