On Tuesday, September 11, 9:40 a.m., at Mitchell High School, 1205 Potter Dr., Mitchell’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) will have its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony commemorating the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 tragedy. The memorial ceremony will honor the military personnel, fire fighters, police officers, and civilians who passed away during the 9/11 tragedy.
There will be a special tribute to Ms. Kathryn Yancey LaBorie, a 1975 graduate of Mitchell High School, who was a flight attendant aboard United Airlines Flight 175. Her plane was the second aircraft to crash into the World Trade Center. There will also be a special tribute to Petty Officer Darrel Enos, a 1995 graduate of Mitchell High School, who died August 17, 2012, while supporting combat operations in Farah Province, Afghanistan. During the special tribute to Kathryn and Darrel, the JROTC cadets will have a presentation and laying of a wreath.
Participating in the ceremony will be Mitchell’s JROTC Cadets, choir, band, Colorado Springs Fire Department Station 10, Colorado Springs Police Department High School Resource Officers, and the Yancey family. Attending the ceremony will be students, teachers, parents, district administrators, and NORTHCOM personnel.
Scott Elementary to Honor Heroes in Special Assembly
To give Scott Elementary students the opportunity to express gratitude to our local heroes and to honor those heroes, Scott Elementary, 6175 Whetstone Dr., will hold a special assembly on Tuesday, September 11, 8-9 a.m. Local fire, police, and EMS workers will be honored at this assembly.
