AFA doubles team wins first match at All-American Championships

Seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake won their first match in the prequalifying draw at the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Tennis Championships Saturday at UCLA. Cecil and Dake, who are now 7-0 in doubles this fall, defeated Caroline Wegner and Kelly Gray of Memphis 8-1 in the round of 32.

The Falcon duo will face Elisha Gabb and Cierra Gaytan-Lewis of Missouri, the fifth-seed in the draw, on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9:00 a.m. (PT). Four teams from the prequalifying draw will advance to the qualifying bracket, which begins on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

“This was really an exciting day for our women’s tennis program,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. “It is the first time an Air Force team has posted a win in four attempts at this tournament. I am especially excited for Hannah and Melissa because this was a personal goal of theirs.”
