AFA celebrates Hindu festival Friday

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Academy will celebrate Sri Ganesha Chaturti, a major Hindu festival, at the Cadet Chapel this Friday, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The festival commemorates the divinity, Lord Ganesha, who Hindus view as representing the Supreme Being and the remover of obstacles, ensuring success in human endeavors. He symbolizes wisdom and is identified with the sacred sound OM. Hindus worship Lord Ganesha first before beginning any religious, spiritual or worldly activities. Students pray to Lord Ganesha at the beginning of the school term for a successful year. Hindu priests from the SV Temple of Colorado, located in Castle Rock, will perform a special prayer service for all cadets at the festival. They will prepare and serve Indian cuisine to all who attend.
