U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., – An Air Force Academy cadet died today.
Academy personnel found the cadet unconscious and the cadet was transported to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where the cadet was pronounced dead this morning.
The Commandant of Cadets informed the Cadet Wing of the death today during lunch.
The name of the cadet is being withheld – per DOD Instructions – until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.
“The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet,” said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy. “Our Air Force family is grieving this loss, and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time.”
The cause of the death is under investigation.
Academy personnel are coordinating funeral arrangements with the cadet’s family.
