Reminder to File Lower North Fork Fire Claims

People who believe they may have suffered an injury as a result of the Lower North Fork fire are being reminded to file their claims with the State Claims Board. That fire occurred on or about March 26, 2012.

Any person intending to seek monetary damages from the state of Colorado or a state employee for an injury suffered as a result of the fire must file a Notice of Claim (NOC) with the Colorado Office of the Attorney General. Any person seeking monetary damages against any other public entity or employee should file a NOC with the governing body of the public entity, or with its attorney.

The NOC must be filed within 180 days after the date of the discovery of the injury or by September 22, 2012. However, the deadline may vary depending on when the injury was discovered. Individuals should not rely solely on NOCs filed by their insurance company. Anyone who believes they sustained injuries as a result of the fire should file their own NOC to protect their rights.

Information about the claims process is available on the Risk Management website at: www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/DPA-DHR/DHR/1224586003696.
