Motherlode Volleyball Classic Kicks off Thursday

The storied MotherLode Volleyball Classic, one of North America’s top-rated pro-am beach volleyball tournaments begins play this coming Thursday, August 30 with it Men’s and Women’s Seniors and Masters divisions competing on the landlocked sand courts of Aspen, Colorado.

The largest beach doubles volleyball tournament in the Country, The MotherLode brings the excitement and fun beach volleyball to Colorado for the 40th consecutive year.

Although many of the top players will be playing in a hastily organized post-Olympic celebration at another Event, a bevy of up-and-coming pro beach players have flocked to register for what Volleyball Magazine has called “the social Event of the outdoor volleyball season”.  These young, and energetic future stars will have to compete against the likes of Canada’s #1 team (fresh back from their 9th place finish at the London Olympics) of Josh Binstock and Martin Reader as well as many other journeyman pros from all over the United States and Canada.

On the “grassroots” side of the tourney, over 500 teams of amateur players are coming into Aspen to experience the competition of what has been termed “the quintessential national championships of grass volleyball” by one official of the sports governing body, USA Volleyball.

Like lemmings-to-the-sea, over 3,000 volleyball FANatics and aficionados invade Aspen every Labor Day Weekend, creating an atmosphere of competition, fun, and excitement that is the embodiment of the lifestyle of beach volleyball everywhere.
